Hair Health (Tips and Tricks for LONG HEALTHY hair!)

Above is my natural hair with no extensions in :)

Hello everyone!

I am back with a whole post on hair health for you beauties! I love love love having long hair but I have to say my hair is naturally fine and I have put it through some trials over the years from dying it blonde in my early 20s, being outside in the hot sun every summer, swimming regularly in chlorinated pools and being exposed to the struggles of stress and anxiety (these do a number on hair!)

This post is all about the things I have found that truly help the length, texture and overall health of my hair. There will be 3 sections; diet for hair health, supplements for hair health & products for hair health.

These are all things that I’ve found to be super helpful over the years in contributing to long healthy hair! I am always revising and growing this list as I try and experiment with new things! Remember these are all things that have worked for me, it’s purely my personal opinion so they may or may not work for you, everyone is DIFFERENT!

Let’s get to it!

Diet

Foods that are high in healthy fats and protein will be a best friend to your luscious locks! Below are te top three things I add more of in my diet when my hair is feeling lack-luster.

  1. Avocados (Vitamin E & Healthy Fats)

  2. Eggs (Great Source of Protein and Biotin)

  3. Salmon (Omega 3 Fatty Acids)

Supplements

Biotin - this is my #1 Holy grail supplement for hair growth. Often times. Biotin doesn’t thicken the hair but if you want your hair to GROW, biotin is a must add into your routine. Biotin comes from the B Vitamin Family. Over the past 2 months I’ve been using Purify Life Biotin Gummies. You guys, when I say that these work I am nooooot lying. My hair usually grows about .75 inches/ month if I’m being generous. I started taking these right after my last hair trim and in one month my hair has grown around 2 inches (I’m so disappointed that I forgot to take photos but please trust me on this!). It’s actually insane!! I don’t notice much difference in thickness or texture BUT the length factor when taking these is for sure huge. I notice so much new growth at the root as well. They are also super tasty! I’ll link them HERE!

Collagen - This is a must have for general hair/skin/nail health overall. Bonus points because collagen also helps our joints and since I lead a movement heavy lifestyle collagen is so good for keeping the body performing! I actually couldn’t stand the taste of collagen until I started taking purify life gummies. I tried the biotin first and when I loved the results I started adding in the collagen gummies shortly after. I am almost done with my first batch and reporting in they taste great! So far I am feeling great using them! I’ll link them HERE!

Products

Moroccan Oil Hair Mask - This smells HEAVENLY & I use it once every week or once every other week depending on how dry it is and how my hair is feeling. I have been using this for YEARS and my hair always feels like new after using it. Linked HERE

Moroccan Oil - I use a dime size of this every time I get out of the shower. I will brush out my hair and apply it mostly on the ends working up to the top through wet hair and then comb it through. I’ve tried other argan oil brands and they are just not the same. This is my favorite. Just be careful to not apply it to your roots otherwise hair will get greasy to quickly! Linked HERE

Other Worthwhile Things to Note

STRESS - Stress has by far been the biggest struggle with keeping my hair feeling healthy, shiny and long. It’s extremely noticeable when I’m going through a harder time because my hair will show it almost immediately and it takes a while to rebuild from these times. I encourage anyone who is working on getting their healthiest hair to find a way to mitigate your stress. This looks different for EVERYONE! My favorite ways:

  • Meditation: This does not have to be sitting in silence, this can be talking a walk every day even if it is just around the block. This can connect you with nature and reground your nervous system into a more safe state.

  • Movement: Yoga, Weight Training, Martial Arts, Dance, Pilates ANYTHING that brings you joy and fun. Things that make you feel like you are IN your body and present in the moment. This can change over the seasons of your life. For example I was an avid runner in my teens and twenties, I’ve now shifted to enjoy walking much more accompanied by many of the movement styles above. The KEY is to find what you ENJOY, movement is movement and helps to unlock those emotions and tensions that we carry around making our hair and our lives not feel so great!

  • Spending time connecting with people and nature that fill u your cup: Remember we don’t have to do everything alone and we can share our journey when it get’s heavy. Don’t be afraid to talk to a friend or loved one and let love in if you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed!

REGULAR HAIR TRIMS/DUSTINGS

  • This is KEY!!! I cannot stress enough how key it is for my fine haired ladies to find a stylist they can TRUST and get a tiny baby trim every three months! I know it is terrifying if you are trying to grow out your hair but it is so important for keeping the little split ends and dead weight off of your hair! When I started doing this it changed the game for me. I never say I’m getting a hair cut it is always a little baby trim or dusting. Sometimes less than 1/2 inch but doing this regularly ( do it every 3 months) makes a HUGE difference in how my hair feels and grows out! Before I did this my hair would have less volume and feel heavier on my head, now it feels light and has some movement which is so important and WE LOVE THIS VIBE.

I hope these tips help you like they’ve helped me!
