I Drank Celery Juice Every Day for Two Months. This is What Happened.

This post is based solely on my opinion and personal experience. I am not a doctor and am not here to share medical or nutritional advice. I am purely sharing my personal stories based on my own research and experiences.


Greetings all!

So, this blog post has been a long time coming. A few people have asked me to write about my celery juice experience because I shared it on my social media. I wanted to take my time and make sure I could give you valuable information before sharing my experience. Over this past winter I took it upon myself along with one of my best friends and rock climbing queen (Michaela Hastings) to hop on the celery juice train. Mind you, I had been thinking about trying it for at least a year but just didn’t commit.

I’m sure you’ve heard of celery juice somewhere on the internet or from a friend of a friend and maybe have wondered..why celery? I follow The Medical Medium who is the go to person for celery juice miracles on Instagram and I loved reading about all of the celery juice success stories he shared from his clients. Slowly more and more people seemed to be juicing celery and having great results. I started to research the benefits of celery juicing and wondered; would drinking celery juice every day change my life too? Did I have any underlying health issues that could be cleared up with celery juice as a cure? It was only a matter of time until I finally went for it.

However, I’m no stranger to juicing. I grew up with some pretty hippie dippie parents who were of the Woodstock and Haight Ashbury era; not to mention my mom has worked in the organic industry since before I was born. SO I’ve sure had my fair share of juices. In my early 20’s I got my very own juicer for Christmas after seeing Kris Carr talk in NYC and tell her story about how juicing along with a myriad of other things helped to cure her stage IV cancer.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it as some of the claims were very steep on what benefits this magical celery juice delivered.

Some of the conditions Celery Juice is rumored to help via The Medical Medium Blog are:

  • Chronic Acid Reflux

  • Reduce Bloating

  • Fighting Autoimmune Disease

  • Restoring Adrenal Function

  • Flushing Toxins out of the Liver

  • Killing Epstein Barr & Shingles Virus

  • Reducing Inflammation

  • Eradicate Strep Bacteria which is responsible for UTIs, SIBO & Yeast Infections

  • Along with many many more

Celery is packed full of Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Potassium, Folate, Magnesium & B6. Celery is also a rich source of flavonoids like zeaxanthin and lutein,  which studies have shown to help in age-related macular degeneration. Celery is also 95% water containing a high amount of electrolytes and sodium which helps to prevent dehydration (Source; Dr. Axe & Parsley Health).

After reading the possible benefits I had to see if celery juice would impact my life in any way at all. I had to see what the Celery Juice hype was about. I ended up juicing celery for about 60 days, I believe it was a little longer than that but honestly I lost count after 60.

So lets get to it, HOW do we go about juicing this mystical celery and WHAT REALLY HAPPENS when we juice celery for 60 days…

The Celery Juicing Manifesto FOLLOW THE RULES

Let me tell you. I see so many blogs about trying celery juice for 7 days. Or I start watching a video about juicing results and the person writing the blog has eaten before juicing the celery. Which okay fam to each their own. BUT I did some serious research on how to make celery juice actually work for you and turns out if you want celery juice magic, you have to follow celery juice rules! Before I wrote this post I wanted to be absolutely sure I followed the rules from the experts and that I gave celery juice an ample amount of time to generate results or not generate results. I wanted to make sure this post brings you value in some way and that it’s not just click bait for celery.

The Rules

  1. Juice 16 oz Celery Juice (About One WHOLE Bunch) per serving. This I was religious about, I made sure to not drink less than 16 oz! Yes indeed I measured that juice every day. Yes indeed I was buying A LOT of celery. The Medical Medium specifically states 16 oz minimum for you to see results.

    • Pro Tip: If it’s not organic celery it tastes TERRIBLE. I tried this on a few occasions when I did not want to travel the extra 20 minutes to a health food store and I paid the price with my taste buds. If you’re committing to celery juice know that buying organic is pretty necessary.

  2. Drink your Celery Juice on an EMPTY STOMACH, First thing in the Morning.

  3. Drink Celery Juice FRESH. As soon as you juice it, drink it right away for best results. This means getting your little booty to the juicer every single morning and yes…cleaning it every morning as well haha womp womp.

  4. The Medical Medium says to drink celery juice for at least 7 days to see results. However I’ve found that everything worth doing takes a minimum of 30 days to truly see any results. So I committed to 30 days. (However I ended up juicing celery for 60).


60 days of Celery Juice - The Results

The results are in and I want to report that I did not have any groundbreaking life-changing results. BUT I did notice subtle shifts that made my day to day life a little bit better which made me continue juicing long after my initial 30 day commitment. Overall I eat a pretty clan diet, I exercise regularly and I don’t have any underlying conditions. The fact that I noticed results even if they weren’t huge got me to thinking about those of us that have more exaggerated health conditions or concerns. I think celery juice could really be a life changing addition for some.

The Positives of Celery Juice

  1. MENTAL CLARITY & BOOSTED ENERGY - The first thing I started to notice was how I felt in the morning. I am NOT a morning person. If I could sleep til noon every day I absolutely would. The first week I started drinking celery juice I was actually a little bit more tired than usual. I attribute this to a removal of toxins. I read that often depending on the level of cleansing your body needs the more garbage you might feel when first starting. The initial cleanse could come in the form of GI symptoms, headaches, or sluggishness. After the first 3-5 days I noticed a huge burst in energy. I wouldn’t call myself a morning person but I felt less sluggish in the morning, more ready to take on the day. I found it easier to get out of bed. I’ll take this as a win from celery.

  2. SKIN - I get the occasional breakout but I’ve never really suffered with severe skin concerns. That being said, my skin was looking mighty fine while I was drinking celery. Definitely no breakouts during celery time. Skin stayed clear and smooth throughout the 60 days. I felt like my face generally looked more vibrant. I’m not sure how to describe this but I feel that I looked healthier overall through my face. Since I did this during the wintertime I was surprised because usually don’t notice a vibrance to my skin during wintertime. Summer is when I get my glow on but I think celery contributed to overall skin health and glow in the dead of a Connecticut Winter.

  3. BLOATING - Juicing celery did not cause me to lose any weight. Then again that’s not the point of drinking celery. What I did notice however, again mostly in my face was a de-bloating effect. I noticed my cheekbones were more visible for sure. I felt that celery did allow some water weight to dissipate. This wasn’t a huge difference but it was indeed noticeable.

  4. ALLERGIES & SINUSES - After juicing celery for quite some time I decided to take a few days off to see if I actually noticed a difference. I think this was around day 45? Backstory, I have a terrible mold allergy and our house has a wet basement so I am always fighting the sniffles. I also was born with a deviated septum as well so my sinuses are stuffed constantly. After 3 days off of the celery I thought I might be coming down with a cold, I started feeling very stuffy. I forgot I had taken a few days off of celery. I started right back up on day 4 and sure enough all of the sinus issues cleared up. I have a theory - I feel like when I was drinking the celery juice I didn’t realize the difference it was making because it was subtle, but as soon as I stopped it was apparent how much of a change the daily celery juice was making!

  5. IMMUNE BOOST - Now I can’t confirm or deny the truth of this. What I can say is that I am the only person in my office that did not get some sort of cold, cough or flu this year while I was drinking celery. At one point every single person I work with was sick, and I did not bring any of it home. Whether this is attributed to the celery juice or my immune system I don’t know. I’l let you try for yourself and see how this plays out for you! I can’t complain either way!

  6. RITUAL - This was my favorite side effect of celery juice. I feel this could be applied to any behavior we perform religiously every day. But I began to look forward to the ritual I created of drinking celery juice first thing in the morning. I felt that I was cascading health into my body and I looked forward to this process every day. Getting the juicer out, preparing my celery, juicing and cleaning the juicer became a form of morning meditation. This allowed me a few moments in the morning to be attentive and aware. To check in and see how I was feeling. The ritual of knowing I’m doing something good for my body and acting on this every single day was extremely fulfilling. There is certainly something to be said about ritualistic behaviors that serve your personal well-being. I noticed that starting my day with this ritual of nourishment set me up for the rest of the day. I felt like I had started well and I wanted to keep the momentum going, meaning eating more nourishing foods, exercising, resting if needed. The ritual spilled over into other aspects of my life and I really felt more peace from this.

  7. BONUS - ASTHMA - I personally don’t suffer from asthma. However my friend Michaela who was juicing with me does. She noticed a HUGE change in her breathing while juicing celery. When she first started she had a persistent cough for 6 weeks, after a few days of celery the cough was gone. As she continued to juice celery, her asthma symptoms lessened greatly and her breathing improved.

The Negatives of Celery Juice

I found the benefits of drinking celery juice to far outweigh the negative aspects of celery juicing, but it’s definitely worth mentioning.

  1. SENSITIVE STOMACH - This did not happen until much later in my celery journey. However I can report that both myself and my friend noticed this. After about 2 and a half months of celery our stomachs did start to get a little bit sensitive. We ended up trying celery every other day for a while. I personally attribute this to the body telling me it had received the benefits from celery and it’s no longer of use. Perhaps all of the toxicity had left my body and the celery juice had done its work. Perhaps this is a side effect of long term celery. I can’t answer that as I’m not a doctor but I did notice slight stomach sensitivity after prolonged celery drinking. I think that 30 days is more than enough to see great results and after that perhaps try alternating every other month or as needed!

  2. COST - This might not be accessible to everyone due to the high cost of celery in some grocery stores. I found I had to really seek out which stores had the best deal and shop for my celery there. I will say Whole Foods Market had THE BEST celery and the best deal by far. I was shocked by this but its true! I would encourage you to shop around for the lowest priced organic celery in your area.

Final Thoughts

Overall do I think juicing celery was worth it? Absolutely. I noticed enough subtle changes for me to juice celery every single day for 60 days. Why did I stop? I got lazy and I was feeling VERY good after the 60 days. Will I pick up juicing celery again? I think I will during the wintertime yes. If I had more extensive health concerns I truly see how celery juice could be a game changer. Seeing how it reduced inflammation in my body within 2 months I totally see how this could help a whole range of symptoms by just reducing inflammation alone.

*Something to note if juicing celery in the summertime - Celery is in the category of fruits and vegetables that cause phytophotodematitus. Other fruits and vegetables in this category are limes, parsley, carrot, fig, any citrus fruit & meadow grass. This is something you do not want to mess around with, if you are out in the sun for a prolonged amount of time with the residue or juice of any of these fruits and vegetables on your skin you can be severely burned. So please please make sure to wash your hands more throughly than you think you should after handling your celery OR use gloves while handling if you will be in the sun that day! I’ve had this from limes and it is NO JOKE!
